I am really surprised there isn't more on the news about the Mars landing. Haven't seen any videos or news coverage. Seems it is more important to complain about Trump.

I've seen a ton of pictures and coverage. Super cool stuff. I haven't heard boo about Trump in weeks. Talk about a breath of fresh air. We must follow different news sources.

Yep I have been following the landing as well.. kinda cool we pulled it off and we get to see what's on another planet. Wish I was 20 something again and might get to see people landing and living on the Moon and Mars.
Oh and I don't miss all of the Trump drama either....nice not too have to deal with all that drama and assorted BS on a seemingly daily basis...:)

The secret binary code message designed into the parachute was a cool touch...

I kept getting a deja vu all over again with this big hoo-hah about landing a rover and photos of the surface. Turns out for good reason. I remember the video and photos from the first Rover in 1996.
Mars Pathfinder - USA Lander & Surface Rover - 870 kg - (December 1996)
The Mars Pathfinder delivered a stationary lander and a surface rover to the Red Planet on July 4, 1997. The six-wheel rover, named Sojourner, explored the area near the lander. The mission's primary objective was to demonstrate the feasibility of low-cost landings on the Martian surface. This was the second mission in NASA's low-cost Discovery series. After great scientific success and public interest, the mission formally ended on November 4, 1997, when NASA ended daily communications with the Pathfinder lander and Sojourner rover.

I'm waiting to see that Mars-a-Copter take pics.......has it flown yet? I don't believe it's flown yet. They are calling the drone Ingenuity. The main purpose is to see if they can fly a drone on Mars. The atmosphere is very thin compared to Earth's, less than 1 percent as dense. Plus it might not survive the cold temps after it undocks from Perseverance. It has less than a 1,000 foot range so it's more like a Wright Brother's first flight. Here is a link you might find interesting - Ingenuity - Mars Helicopter

Pretty sure the reason they are not showing more on this subject is because there is not much to going on up there. NASA has a great mission website. So far they have over 6,000 images available for download on the site. They are RAW images, so not pretty and processed. I've quickly edited the one below to give an example of what they are sending down. The mission also has it's own Twitter account @NASAPersevere. Note the hobbies listed. ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2021/03/full-2130-87173-nasa_mars_twitter.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2021/03/full-2130-87175-mortensen_mars_perseverance_zrf_0004_0667302274_000fdr_n0010052aut_04096_110085j.jpg)

I ask this out of ignorance because I haven’t been following. But this is not the first rover we have put on Mars, so what’s the big hoopla about this one?

More cameras , better cameras , more interesting location, ( a crater that has what appears to be a dried up river delta.) this thing will drill into the rock . take core samples. Store them until a second vehicle will takes them back to Earth. ( have not got that part figured out yet. ) taking enough fuel to the surface and returning to orbit is not feasible at this time. MO
