Texas Energy Co-Op Files for Bankruptcy After Storm

Quote
The company in court documents says it received an essentially unpayable $1.8 billion bill from the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, the entity that maintains and operates much of the state's electricity grid.

The price for wholesale electricity was set at the maximum price of $9,000 per megawatt hour for more than four straight days. ERCOT also imposed other ancillary fees totaling more than $25,000 per megawatt hour

Brazos said in its court filing, "The consequences of these prices were devastating."

The company received invoices for the seven day winter storm event by ERCOT "which, when combined, amounted to over $2.1 billion, payment of which was required within days," the court filings say.

Ancillary fees of more than $25,000 per megawatt hour?

Family is everything!

Life is precious. We don’t have forever. We have now. This moment. We can choose to love our lives now.

It's going to be interesting how all this shakes out as we the consuming public learns about how these layers of agencies on the state and private levels operated. I feel for these co-ops at this point but how many of them didn't read the "fine print"? ERCOT seems to be a multi headed beast at this point.

Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it !

Yep. I’m very interested in the exposés of what exactly happened, especially with ERCOT.

Yea. It looks really bad that they are already resigning. Maybe they just know it's a no win situation so they are leaving but it does make it look like they know something is about to be exposed.

Bravos executive Vice President was on ERCOT board and resigned yesterday. Website says the co-op reaches from Lubbock to Navasota and includes some towns around the metromess. Corinth for one.

Brazos provides power to 16 co-ops such as United Co-Op. He should resign due to the conflict of bankruptcy/debtor.
