Prayers for you and her.

Keep an eye on her mental state as loss of a body part can bring on depression.

Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it.

She will be just fine. That' s good she has 20/20 in the other eye.

What exactly happened? You mentioned a car door.

I would have to agree with this. It has to be a very traumatic event.

I missed that part where she injured her eye. My Mom has had one for at least 30 years. Her eye was removed due to nerve damage. I remember when she first got it, it took some getting used to and she kept it in a jewelers box. She also used it to her advantage. One time my then 5 year old niece Shawna was at Mom's house. Shawna was looking for her Goldfish snacks and couldn't find them. Mom pulls her glass eye out of the box and holds it above her head and said, "They are here on the top shelf". It was two weeks before Shawna went back to Grandma's house again.

I’m sorry to hear this.

I lost sight in my right eye 7 years ago and it’s been no picnic since.

The worst part is the loss of depth perception, which I still struggle with, and the loss of confidence while I’m driving. When I drive, I feel like I have to be hyper vigilant to compensate for the loss of peripheral vision. It can be very draining mentally

Good luck

LSS,
my daughter in law has Ocular Melanoma. had here eye removed about three years ago.
i'm curious how your grandmother did with her melanoma if you don't mind me asking?
only one in six million people get OM.

Blooper,
hope your wife does well with the procedure.
when my DIL had her eye removed she seemed to come out ok without any complications from the procedure.

She was fine. She had a recurrence in 1989 in her liver, as they thought she would...Had a rather larger tumor (I think 13 pounds or so) removed from her liver...then, she was in a clinical trial for what is now the standard chemo treatment for that type of cancer. I can't recall the name at the moment, but I think it started with an 'I'. She had to sue her insurance company to get them to pay for the treatment. She then had another recurrence in 1998 when the melanoma formed in her brain. They removed the tumor and she lived another 30 months. It was not the melanoma that took her life, however, the death certificate says it was her heart, I have my own theory, however. Her case was written about in one of the big medical journals because the melanoma acted just like they thought it would back in 1974. Started in the eye, went to the liver and then the brain...

Wife had her eye out today and is 100 per cent better.
She is almost her old self again without the bad eye constantly draining.
Now we have to work on her vision being singular and get her driving short distances.
Thanks for all the well wishes
