I electronically submitted a "Form 1" with ATF to make a short barreled rifle on 9/18 of last year. It was finally approved about ten minutes ago. So much for the "average" turn time of 30-60 days for an e-filed application, but nevertheless I'm delighted that it was approved.

For what it's worth, I used an NFA gun trust which I drafted myself and use as a template for clients. Now that the first item has been approved, I can get a suppressor or a couple of other toys added to the trust without resubmitting photos & fingerprints.

Gonna download the tax stamp to my phones and computers, along with having printed copies in home and vehicle. Better safe than sorry.

There's no rhyme or reason when it comes to the ATF processing forms 1 and 4. I've had them as soon as 90 days and as long as 13 months.

Someone on THF said that ATF applications have gone way up since the lockdowns first started, and the ATF agents are working from home. Guess it makes sense.

If you got an approval within 6 months you are lucky.
Our approvals are averaging 7 to 9.

I handled all the NFA Form submissions at my old job. Submitted 20-30 a month. At one point years ago, there was a bit of a rhythm to it all. Nothing definite, but at least they would be approved in the order they were submitted. The last couple of years I did it, it was a crapshoot. Some Form 4 - Trust submissions would come back in 4 months while another submitted in the same batch would take over a year.

The latest weirdness I saw was a Form 4 that had been approved and signed by the examiner, then the signature was whited-out, the form was stamped with a huge red "RETURN FOR REVIEW" or something like that, then it was approved and signed again over the white-out, but looked terrible and the stamp was still on it when we got it back. The customer was not happy and was worried about what would be said if he was ever asked to present it.

You shouldn't have to submit them again unless something has changed with the new regime. confused 3

Once the first one is approved each subsequent filing "should" be approved faster but as mentioned already there is no rhyme or reason to the way ATF does stuff. hammer

All of my Form 1’s have taken 35 days or less. I guess I got lucky. I did have a Form 1 get denied a couple months ago because they claimed I didn’t type in the caliber correctly on the form. Complete bs...

Because of the pandemic, anything associated administratively with the government is a mess

It took 12 weeks for me to renew my passport. In the past it look less than 3 weeks.

May need your help. I've always wanted a suppressor for my Sig. Have the barrel but never went for the suppressor.

I checked the NFA stamp approval thread on Reddit just now. They're already showing some October Form 4 approvals coming in, so you shouldn't be too far out now.
