Wintertime Sunfishing can be tough, especially after an Artic Cold Blast we recently suffered through. But you don't know unless you go, and you never can predict where to find them unless you explore. I fish different community lakes almost daily and never cease to be amazed finding decent size sunfish in areas they're just aren't suppose to be. This one fell for the bait of champions in less than 2 feet of water today.

One of Two Vogey....But Chuck (Banker) caught a whole bunch of smaller ones (7-8") and showed me where they were. He left, after letting me take his spot, but the bite seemed to have ceased until I caught this one. The second one was an 8" Hybrid which seems to dominant this body of water. We're thinking there will be more and bigger ones soon. We haven't caught any dink sunfish yet, just a whole bunch of little Bass. banana

Thanks Vogey, Pot licker, Banker, Gar 1970 and Laker for the replies. Laker, there are places where we are starting to see minnows up in a few inches of water. I first started fishing the grass beds in 5 ft of water where it dropped into 20 ft. I thought that would be where to find them, but no, not even a nibble. It seems the fish were way back in the end of a cove where the water was real shallow. Like Gar1970 mentioned they were basking in the sun even though the water was real clear and cold. thumb

Catyakker you catch some BIG fish. Good job Sir. Seems the BOC is working very well for you and banker. Good job guys.

Side Note: I would not tell Laker any of your spots unless he gives up his crappie locations! Just my two cents. 2cents

Laker One...20 feet deep is a guess using my old man has to fish from the bank sitting on a bucket, depth finder. I set my small cigar shaped slip bobber at 15 ft deep and cast as far as I can. If the bobber still sits upright, I know it's deeper then that. wink As to where the water body is, Google Maps around San Antonio's Brand New Subdivisions is my friend. fish
