Are there any suv tires that comes close to Michelin for smooth and quiet driving that don't cost an arm and a leg?

I am looking at Atturo. I don't drive a lot any more so they will work for me. Not sure if they have anything in a HT but you might want to look at their website.

I have started buying tires at Costco. The BF Goodrich models they have are very good and much cheaper than Michelin. I drove my Camry all over the ice and snow with no issues on my BFG. Set of 4 was $447 out the door with a 65k mile warranty.

What kind/size suv and what kind of tire are you looking at?

Many tires offer great performance. I have had continetal's on my wife's crossover (ford escape) first set went 83,000 miles and were still good but replaced due to age. Second set is a CHEAP set from Walmart, goodyear viva. It is a tire that goodyear makes and is only sold at walmart. The set of 4 was $277 out the door. They have 47,000 miles on them now and are in great shape and are still quiet.

I've bought 2 sets of Michelin on Craigslist from people taking off new sets to get custom wheels and bigger tires

When I bought the last set of Michelin tires for my truck they were only $80.00 more than the cheaper ones.

I now have right at 60K on them and they still look new. cheers

I can only give examples from the H/D truck sector, (10 ply), but the Toyo Open Country H/T were the only tires that lasted as long as the Michelin, and had as good of a ride. Yokohama Geolandar H/T, was a close second. We averaged 80k on both Michelins and Toyos, in towing applications on H/D trucks, which I thought was pretty good. With regular rotation, of course.

Nope, the Michelin Defender LTX is a fantastic tire on trucks or SUV's. I just shopped 18" tires for our vehicles and the "cheaper tires" were about 200 a set less. When I consider how many hours I drive over that 200.00 it's a no brainer. If you need a more aggressive tire there are several good alternatives.

Don't know how you guys do it. I never got more than 40k miles out of set of Michelins.

I don't think I've ever done anything out of the ordinary? I rotate every 5,000 miles when the oil is changed. I normally change them out about every 50,000 miles and they tend to have about 4/32 tread left.

Keep the inflation correct, rotate them, and don't drive like you are a NASCAR driver! cheers
