Hello,

My family and I are headed to Rockport this weekend.I have been a Bass fisherman all my life but, have never been saltwater fishing. My question is what type of tackle do I need? We are staying at a house on one of the canals. I assume we are going to be fishing off the dock and possibly any other areas around Rockport that maybe someone could suggest. I have room for one or two rods. I am assuming my bass tackle will be ok as long as I wash it off. I was thinking about a spinning and a baitcasting rod.

Thanks for the help

If you're not looking to purchase any other tackle, your bass rods will do fine for specks and reds. As for lures, gold spoons, chug bugs, bass assassing or flukes and sometimes rattle traps. Under pier lights, we sometimes have good luck with small (3 inches) shallow running stickbaits or crappie jigs (rubber bodies) for the little schoolies. Watch the teeth on specks...they're sharp...heavier leader material will help.
