Hello Everyone, wanting to get some input from y’all on how to set up my dock with some structure that’s going to pull fish with a focus on crappie. As an overview, I’m sitting in a large cove off the main lake in about 9.5’ at the end of the dock. No structure at all in the cove itself with a slick bottom from what I have been told and seen on the graph so far. The cove I’m in is about 500 yds across where I’m at and feeds into a small canal that runs a couple hundred yds or so. Attached is the drawing of the dock from the builder to give you an idea of what I’m working with. End of the dock is 130’ off the retaining wall. Only thing I have done so far was dropping some big piles of scrap brick that was left over from our house being built in three spots (one on far right front corner, right back corner, and inside end of the boat slip). Already have materials for pvc, irrigation pipe, ripped vinyl siding and 5 gallon buckets rigs so looking to stay with that (have enough to build ten). Really just needing opinions on placement and how many before I go overkill. Was wanting to drop something along walkway as well so there would be different depths covered too. Good water depth for spring/summer/fall crappie. IMHO natural brush works better than the man made materials but they will work. Crappie love the shade so if there's a way to fish directly under the large part of the dock (trap door), I'd put structure there. If not, some small structure along the walk way for spring and the remainder close to the end of the large dock area but inside the stall in the shade. Good luck.

if you have a large deck it will work best as crappie desire shade even more so than structure but both is better. Use hard wood, bois d'arc, oak but not aa lot. Put a revoable section 6" wide between joists and some brush around it. Enjoy the results.

My best docks have a depth difference ( shore to end ) a few feet usually enough. I like solitary docks better than a whole row.

While fishing from a boat brush is our enemy as a swimming jig will get hung up all the time.

Bamboo works great also. This dock wouldn't be on RC lake would it?

I would use 10’ bamboo and 2 cinder blocks tied together. Wait until May and place them under the edge of the boathouse and just fish along the edge of the boathouse. It will last about 3 years, then you can tie a rope to the blocks, pull them up and do it again.

This is what I have at Grapevine... holds mostly crappie but the stray white bass or LM will pop in. I used 550 paracord to hang them from the dock. I have one covering 5 to 10ft and one covering 15-20ft. The round ones are sitting on the bottom of the lake under my slip.
