Surely there are some good things that will or already have happened because of it-

This should at least cut down on the mosquitos this year won’t it?

What you got?

HOW you react to what happens to you DOES!

Cold weather has no effect on mosquito population.
The mosquito population in Alaska during warm weather is beyond outrageous.

I'll have to go with the tried and true... nippy out there.

Good chance there will be a big shad die off on a bunch of lakes. Should make the fishing better in the short term. Long term, I'm not so sure.

I didn’t think about that Texan, this is the kinda thing I was looking for-
Just trying to see anything good about this situation, I figure there are many good things if we think about it-

Learning experiences: 1. If we ever thaw out, I'm buying a generator. A gas powered one. 2. ERCOT needs to quit relying upon "green energy" as a backup. It did not work. Those "lovely" millions of acres of ginormous wind turbines froze up rendering them useless. Solar panels with snow on them are also useless. 3. ONCOR needs to learn how to speak truthfully. "Rolling blackouts" of 15 to 45 minutes" are NOT the same thing as 13 hour blackouts. 13 hours vs. 45 minutes. Little bit of difference there.

How about fleas and ticks...I heard that freezing weather will reduce the population. Can't remember past weather like this.

Used to work for a company that sold insecticidal products and our biggest profits came from flea control. Long, cold winters definitely reduced flea and tick populations. We loved warm winters and wet springs - meant big bonuses come year-end.

Maybe this little adventure has given people a taste of nature's reality.

If nothing else, maybe we'll be a little more prepared the next time this happens.

It might also make us all more thankful for things that we take for granted, like continuous power and fully stocked grocery shelves.

I'm going to chop some out of the ice, and see if they're mushy when they thaw. If I get a lot, I may brew up a 55gal drum of stinkbait in the backyard.

Green energy is an easy target, but I suspect it had little to do with what we've seen. Probably more likely that we had way too little generating capacity for this kind of historic event. Having enough capacity for this situation would require that we pay every month for infrastructure that would only be needed every few years at best. Most folks probably wouldn't vote to pay for that.

The vast majority didn't see the long-term outage that you experienced. Sorry you had to go through that.
