We just lost ours for the first time about 30 minutes ago. Gas fireplace is running and generator is going as well. Hoping we don't have to go 13 hours but from what I'm reading it could be longer. No idea.

After 13 hours seems like all your water pipes would be frozen.

Ours was over 14 hours. Cold, even with the gas fireplace. Son's room got down to 37 degrees.

On another note, I didn't have anything simmering but I did wrap left over burritos in foil and threw them in the fireplace to warm them up. Took longer than I expected but worked pretty good. Sure just about anything would work. A hot meal sure helps.

Our last joltage ended just before noon today.
We are ok with 56 in the front room right now. I have never had a fire in the fireplace and decided tonight would not be a good time to try one.

The only problem we may have is with Omar, our Cockatiel. She is 20 years old and the lower 50’s puts her at risk. If we can’t keep the kitchen above 58 I might have to try to put her in the car.

Yes, I hear ya. Got another ONCOR notice saying more extended rolling blackouts. I wrote back that after 13 hours, I think it was somebody elses turn. ERCOT, WTH have they been doing to upgrade our power grid. Yes, granted, this is unusual but jeepers, the Green Energy Wind Turbines iced up? Sum Ting Wong sum where.

Yeah, I guess we were lucky. We made a point to run them every hour. We have a Gas Water Heater, Gas Furnace, Gas Fireplace and Stove. At least we didn't lose hot water. We also found that boiling large pots of water on the stove in the kitchen added some heat. The igniters on the stove burners didn't work, had to use a lighter for those but they worked. No way to work the oven it is electronically controlled.

Gas or wood? Ours is gas but I did remember to find a small mirror, open the flue and look up the chimney to make sure it wasn't obstructed before we lit it.
