Many of you have commented on various posts over the last 2 years regarding Lake Monticello and the fact we no longer have access to this amazing fishery. For the last 18+ months, a small group of us have been working on numerous paths hoping to regain access to the amazing publicly owned fishery that exists within those waters. We have been and continue to work with local officials, state representatives and others and now need your help. We have started a Facebook page in an effort to organize positive people, anglers, business owners and more with those same goals. I am not a big Facebook guy and quite frankly never will be so this page is currently being managed Titus Country Sheriff Deputy Wayne Minor who is passionate about this effort.

Our plan is to show how important this is to not only those who travel from all over Texas and beyond to fish it, but more importantly to the local business owners, hotels, motels, restaurants, gas stations, local governments, bait makers and more who benefit from it.

For now, we need help with as many of you as possible liking and following this Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/LAKE-Monticello-Then-Now-Future-101429231992815

It's critical this is all done in a very positive manner as it's going to involve everyone at every level that can have an impact on our ultimate goal including state and local politicians. So, this can not become a bashing session against anyone and any company. Please visit, like, follow and add comments to the page. Comments and posts that would be helpful would be stories about great memories of this lake with friends, family or whoever. Or even the great stories of the wall of fame at the Kountry Corner. Think about how much business that little place did because of people simply coming to fish this amazing little lake. If you know local business owners in the area that could benefit from the lake being open to the public again, please share with them and have them do the same.

As we make progress, I will update this post but there will also be updates on the Facebook page. Let's see how the power of TFF can help us get this done.

Thanks,
Chris Gilroy

How is it publicly owned, its for sale.

Every fish in that lake is property of the state of Texas. It was stocked and managed for decades by funds from the taxes paid by the residents of Texas and its visitors. There have been numerous tickets written over the years that included restitution amounts for fish illegally harvested because they are owned by the great state of Texas.

A good rule of angling philosophy is not to interfere with another fisherman's ways of being happy, unless you want to be hated.

This post will suffice for now. At some point we plan to take all the data possible to people who have the potential to help in this cause. I also don't do the FB thing...never have nor will.

Yes, we are hoping people do comment about positive impacts re-opening this lake can have on you.
