I'm going to ask, because I've never been, is it worth taking a fly rod for a trip in June? I know the water can fluctuate a lot, but surely there will be some perch and bass in pockets here and there?
I've only fished with a fly since March, last year. I'm no novice at catching on conventional tackle, but not knowing the river, I'm not really sure what to expect.
TIA

Personally I take a fly rod every trip anywhere stream to sea. Sounds like you just need more experience to adapt to different scenarios

I fish the Frio a lot. Great fishery. I fish Uvalde County area of the river. Neals cabins and camp ground is on the Frio with plenty of river accesses. The summer months are the wrong time to go. Would go during mid fall and winter. Garner State Park is also a good place to fish the Frio. There are also a few camps up river towards Leakey that offer day passes with river accesses. I would also go during the weekdays and not on the weekends if all possible. Late fall and winter would not matter what day you went on. Worth the trip ! thumb
