I grew up fishing with my parents and grandparents. I was the oldest grandchild, and had the luxury of going with my grandparents when they went fishing. I now have more opportunities to get out. I really enjoy the outdoors and fishing. My wife has little interest in fishing unless i am there to handle the bait and fish. We have 5 days planned at the lake in march. I am curious as to what I can do to help her enjoy fishing if I am out on the kayak. I cannot get her in a kayak to fish with me.

If handling fish is a problem then catching fish is going to be a problem. You could rent a boat with a back deck large enough that she could layout, then at least you two are together while you are fishing. That's the only way I can get my wife to go deep sea fishing.

A five spot for a shot and a beer? And you wonder how we wound up here.

I love fishing but I like to layout when it gets slow. Bathroom is an issue also. But I go fish any chance I get.

I fish with my wife one of two ways:

1. I'm the guide, and the job is to get her on the fish and help her any way I can. I handle the bait and fish and get her back to the bathroom as needed.

2. She's just along for the boat ride, keeping me company and acting as videographer. She loves nice days on the lake, but in this mode, it's not at all about the fish.

The first option is the approach when we have a high level of confidence I can provide a great day fishing for her (excitement and fish).
