Well today decided to try a new lake and a new kind of fish for a change. Got on the water a lil late but we were not in too much trouble. Fish a secret spot today that we were told about and the fish were there. Caught 50 cats with 19 keepers and decided that was enough.........for catfish. So we headed to another spot and found the sandies there. We never could really stay on them because they were sporadic and it was windy but we still managed about 15 whites. And 3 of them being some HUFE sandbass. Biggest ones i have caught to date! I thought the 15 inchers at Hubbard were nce but man these 16 inchers are some slabs! Kept 8 HUGE sandies. You know its bad when you got to throw back 14 1/2 inchers becasue they are so big!!! My bro and I with the catch.

Sure they weren't undersized hybrids?

Sure they weren't undersized hybrids? No they were not undersized hybirds. 100% sure they were not. Been cathing them all my life and i know the diff. These were just the biggest of the biggest sandies! I'll also add that the shad they were chasing were huge also!

Look like really nice whites to me. It had been years since I've seen them like that but caught a half dozen schooling on Belton back in March over 14...they were doing a number on my bass tackle...loads of fun.

Wasn't giving anyone H*** about anything, Alton - you just never know. There are a lot of people who don't know the difference and it doesn't hurt to ask after all the money that was spent by a lot of hybrid fishermen to put more hybrids in Tawakoni.

40 Hybrids between 2 fishermen is about 30 over in my book if that was the case. Not flippin anyone lip, but at $500.00 per fish over that is alot of greenbacks if a Badge had done a creel check. Again, just saying. Looks like that String would put a dull on the filet knife fer sure.

I can assure you that all of the fish that were kept on this trip by knockemdown and his brother were all legal fish. They need no help on what to keep and what to throw back. I was the "guide" for the day, hahaha. Channels and blues from 12"-17" and sandies from 14"-16" were kept. The cat fillets were very small compared to the sandbass.
Redfin, I agree that lots of folks keep undersized hybrids, but we are not one of them. I can only assume that you werent implying that by your post, although it had that tone. Its hard to judge how someone is speaking behind a keyboard, so no offense taken.
We have began to throw back all hybrids, except for the occasional one that gets gill/gut hooked or in the case of the last one that got hooked in the eye.
Good fishing.

Have caught lots of sandys the last 2 years.4 weeks back ,we got into 16 in. fish.Have caught white/hybrid crosses(5)on 2trips.Look for single tooth patch.Wardens said to count them as whites.Still, uneasy about keeping fish with faint broken lines and a single tooth patch.Big white or short hybrid?May depend on who checks you.

Yep! I had a 21" white bass on Tawakoni back in March. It had broken stripes and looked exactly like a hybrid. It also had a single tongue patch. I hunted up a game warden back at the state park, showed it to him then asked what it was. Hybrid! Then I showed him the patch. White!
I'm not exactly sure what the white bass record is on Tawakoni but I bet I was close to it. I wonder if they would have accepted it. There is no way that fish was a true white bass.

TPWD website says the Tawakoni white bass record is 3.64 pounds 15.25 inches and no fish has been turned in in the fly fishing category- i cannot guess the wight of a fish at all but I know I have seen whites from tawakoni that are longer than 15.25
Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

Wow learn something new everyday! These fish were for sure over 16 inches. But i'm not sure about 3 lbs. But i do fly fish for sandies! Maybe i could record one someday just to put it up there. thanks!
