I have to work outside alot this summer and was wondering what type or brand of clothes will keep you cool? Any ideas would be most helpful.

In Texas there is nothing cool when you say WORK, OUTSIDE, SUMMER.

Guad Cat,

That is a very good question and a very misunderstood topic.

Dont wear cotton.

Synthetic fibers absorb very little to no moisture and they allow your sweat to evaporate. Evaporation is what cools. This is true for your freezer, air conditioner, and your skin. Cotton holds moisture close to your skin and doesn't like to let go of it thus stopping evaporation and stopping your skins natural ability to cool. This is why cotton makes such a great towel to dry off with because it is so absorbent. That is also what makes it a bad summertime clothing.

Polyesters or Nylons like in sports jerseys and Under Armour will always be your best bet. Just check the tag.

Cotton = Bad
Polyester/Nylon = Good

Thanks for the input. I never really thought about cotton being absorbant thus bad. The costume would cedrtainly get some laughs at the job site though.

I find synthetic fabrics tend to trap the heat, and think Under Armour is just a selling gimmick. I wear a hat, sunglasses, cotton fishing guide shirt with vents, long sleeves, khaki pants, all light colors. Columbia, Cabelas, and LL Bean.

Tallgrass,

You are right about one thing. Under Armour is a gimmick. You can get the same type of clothing at Walmart. However you are dead wrong about cotton. You will not find even one professional athlete who wears cotton anything. You may not be as perceptive of it because you are being somewhat sedentary when you are fishing but its my understanding that Guad Cat is going to be doing a lot of hard labor outdoors.
