He caught it in the exact same place as last year. Yes that's what the article reads. Im just trying to figure out how they know its the same fish at all. I just didn't read that part.

i use a paper hole punch and put a hole in the tail or anal fin...it grows back like a wart...i've caught the same fish as many as 5 times...i mark'm every time...but i tank fish...not in a lake...but fixin' 2 when i get my Murvaul lake house

About 15 years ago i caught a 7.9 Fishing a tournament on a spot in clear creek n weighed and released it at the old marina across the lake ,the next weekend Sunday caught the same fish on same spot weighed in at 7.8. i know it was the same fish because when i picked her out of the net my middle finger went through a hole in her lower jaw. Won big bass and tournament both weeks. Havent seen her since!
