My Grandpa used to tell me to rub the belly of the fish on the sting....it seemed to work everytime. Maybe that was because I was a little guy and everything Grandpa said was gospel! I sure miss him!

Thank you Lord for the gifts in my life

Do what Ryno said. It does work.

I usually drink a beer. Sometimes, I drink some beer before hand--just in case.

I will never skin another possum, de-horn another cow, or barr another hog-----everything else is price negotiable!

Jam a fish hook into your finger & you'll forget all about the catfish sting!

sorry,no can do. I am woman. Which means I can handle it. Wouldn't keep going if I couldn't. It's worth some pain to have fun fishing.

smith111, laying all BS aside, when you do get barbed by a catfish, take a knife edge & scrape some of the slime off the fish & rub it on the spot & let it dry, it will not get very sore at all if any!! THAT, IS A FACT!!!

Keep your powder dry & don't fire until you see the whites of their eyes!!

also i heard to run hotwater on it as long as 10-15 mins but unless you have a boat might be kind of hard to do. so rub it sounds good to me.

Rubbing the wound on the belly helps. In fact, it's almost instant relief! I've heard you have to use another catfish's slime than the one that stung you, and that does work (trust me) but if you don't have another one the same fish works just fine. Works with fresh AND saltwater catfish.

I keep a can of Dermoplast Antibacterial Spray handy. It takes out the sting within a minute and is probably more beneficial to cleansing than the stomach of a fish. You can get it anywhere.

On a similar subject. mud will take the sting out of fire ant bites if you do not have anything else handy.
