Any recommendations for places to fly fish that are not too far from San Antonio? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Are you talking specifically about trout fishing? You can fly fish just about anywhere.

Guadalupe River, Blanco River, Colorado River, Perdernales River, Nueces River, and several nice creeks. The South Central Texas and hill country are loaded with great places to fish that are fly fishing friendly. You can use google to pin point locations.

Green line park at Brooks City Base or slower pools on the San Antonio river near the missions, or Crescent Bend park on Cibolo Creek can be good for bass and perch. The Medina river past Bandera is usually crystal clear, you can sight fish for many species. Check out "Fly-fishing in Texas" book from the library, it lists many places all over.

If you are in San Antone, you are in one of the best fly fishing BASEs in Texas - THE best in my opinion. You're just a hop-skip-and-jump from some of the best Texas has to offer.
