I knew this was going to be an epic trip with water temps rising and clouds in the sky, plus they had stocked the lake with trout 3 weeks ago, though I never did see a trout. Anyways, I went to a small lake near Bastrop and got there while it was till dark. It took me quite a while to find the fish and how to target them, but it paid off I hooked 13 LMB and landed 9 of them plus a crappie and my PB Bluegill. It may not look huge in the picture, but this bluegill was weigh bigger than the ones I usually catch. It slammed my lure and fought like a small bass. It felt like it weighed about 3 times as much as the bluegills I normally catch and was fat (for a bluegill). It had a blood spot on it's jaw from the hook, hopefully it survived to make more bluegills after I released it.

The bass weren't that big, the biggest ones were about 1.5 pounds, but they fought really hard. I released everything except the crappie because I had never eaten one before. It's a lot like trout, white meat and kind of bland. That's the first crappie I've even seen in that lake, hopefully there's more of them out there.

I am wondering if these bass could have eaten the trout? They don't seem big enough to me but they had to go somewhere.

Yes the bass do eat those trout. I've caught lots of big fish in that lake. A 7 lb. bass, a 1 lb redear, a 1 lb. hybrid sunfish and a bluegill just under a pound. It's become so chocked with weeds. I wish they would do something about it.

Thanks for the report
