Can you find them at the nursery or do you have to start them from seed? I would like to have 4-5 plants.

Possible to find Pequins at a nursery. Our Hโ€‘Eโ€‘B had Pequin plants the last couple years. That said most people say Pequin but are really looking for a Chiltepin. Chiltepin is native to Texas and a round pod about the size of a pea. Pequin is more elongated like a Tabasco pepper but smaller. Google Texas Chiltepin. Never seen plants sold in stores. I have Pequin and Texas Chiltepin seeds. My Chiltepin pods were collected from plants on the Colorado river outside Austin. I can send you Pequin and Chiltepin seeds if you would like. Iโ€™ve had great success starting both by seeds.

These are my Chiltepin and Pequin starts this year. Chiltepin is #24 and Pequin as labeled. I have a couple of the Chiltepins spoken for but none of the Pequins are yet. If youโ€™re cruzing up 45 in the next few weeks I can give you a couple of each.

You are right. I am looking for Chilpiten, the native plant that I had at my apartment yard when in school in Kingsville. I would appreciate a few seeds and would be happy to pay for them.

Shoot me a PM with your address and Iโ€™ll send you a couple pods. Each pod has probably 25+ seeds in them. They are chalk full. Seeds are easy to start via the paper towel or coffee filter method. Lots of YouTubeโ€™s on it. More than happy to answer any questions.

Got 2 in big planters. They've produced really well until this year. Derek you ever cut them back?

Derek how would you rate them for hotness? Is it too late to start them from a seed?

They're pretty dang hot. Scoville puts them just under a Habanero. And that seems about right. The one thing about them is the heat doesn't linger. You get a good heat and then fades fast. They are so full of seeds you get a very nice crunch texture. It's not too late to start them from seeds.

When I was in Junior High we had the Chilteplin plants just outside the lockeroom, the shop teacher had planted them. one day we were heading out for football practice and my buddy was running late and he runs up as he's still getting dressed and says hey Welcher help, hold my helmet while I put on my shoulder pads, I had just picked one of the peppers, and while he was concentrating on getting dressed I broke open the pod and rubbed it on his mouth piece which was attached to his helmet, 15 minutes later we start drills and my buddy's mouth is on fire, as he runs by me to the back of the line he rares back and pops me in gonads, I fall to the ground, coach gets all up in our face for horse playin, so after practice we tell him what happened and he laughed, and made me run some more laps. They were hot as hell! So I deserved it.

Same here. My buddy has bunches of wild ones all over his place and I can send seeds as well if Derek runs out.
