Yesterday I was about to pull the trigger on ordering a Lowrance Ghost. I had been hearing rumors that Motorguide had started shipping their tour pro, so I called Bass Pro in Grapevine and Cabelas in Fort Worth. Both stores had 2 of the 24v 82lb units in stock!! I ended up buying one. I’ve been a motorguide guy for 16 years. I hate buying the first of anything. I really hope after the year plus delay motorguide got them right.

The word out on it isn’t good. I would steer clear.

Cabelas has a 60 day return policy if it ends up being a turd.

I’ve heard opposite so far, but it was only from 2 different users.

I wish you all the best of luck with it. I'll never buy another MG trolling motor personally.

No kidding? That’s how I feel about Minn Kota.

Yeah I’ve had nothing but problems out of the 2 MG I’ve owned. I’ve heard numerous people have had issues with MK I just haven’t. But I also still run a Fortrex. If I was upgrading I’d look into the Garmin. But I dunno if I’ll get a spot lock TM unless this one breaks.

I'll only run MotorGuide from now on.. Have been through 3 Minn Kota's and they've all been a POS. Sold a bass boat with a 20 year old MG on it, still running today

Just pulled a MG off the boat that was installed in 1989.. Allstar replaced the motor in 2000, and i replaced three sets of brushes since then. Total of @ 100$ in brushes and @ 100$ in the good dimmer switch's.... She is sitting on the floor, as I finish the install on the new MK.. Boy I hope I don't have trouble.. Although I work in electrical & mechanical eng/repair. Sure hope that I don't have to mod anything. Sure hope you are happy with the MG, I just have not heard anything good about the MG lately.. Don't know what it's all about, I know some people just will never be happy about anything but I hear allot of bad reports on all the brands. I almost thought about calling MG and talking with someone about a MG model. The old girl has never failed where I couldn't fix her in about 10 minutes (EVER) since 1994 when I bought the boat. But we are talking about basically two components on the old TM, an on/off switch and the rotary switch for speed. Compare this to the hundreds of parts on the new motors, it's only a matter of time. I already dug a little and not many mods out there on beefing up items. Drive it like you rented it, and let us know how it performs. I would love to be a torture tester for TM's, we put over 150 days on the water last year in the old boat alone. This doesn't count for spring canoe sandbass fishing, that's prob another 50'ish... That is the only thing positive that happened during all this "Covid" BS. All we did was fish, and then I would go to work for 3 days, then repeat.. If you guys wouldn't mind share what failed on your TM's, I am curious about the failures.

Only reason I'm upgrading is I am tired of swinging the arm.. I am due for some spot lock..

It sounds like you’re happy so congrats! It’s probably going to be pretty great. The Ultrex has made more trolling motor shop owners rich than any other TM and it’s still great.

Keep us posted.

I agree. I had a MK, always replacing something. Still using a 20 yr old MG without issues.

Here's the Maytag of motorguide. Pulled it off on Wed, might just keep the old girl for backup..
Converted the box to straight 24v and removed the reverse switch many moons ago.
