Hi Y'all,
How do you guys specifically target Stripers and Hybrids? I have been on 5 trips with my family to Lake Buchanan these few weeks and constantly caught 30-60 keeper White Bass every trip. However, we only caught 4 hybrids/Stripers in total over the span of 5 trips, with only one 19' Striper being a keeper.

We were using our thumper. We fished in 55-70 foot of water every time. The lures we were using were slabs/Deadsticking(jighead+4 inch fluke)/Flutter Spoons/Rooster Tails.

Any advises? Is my choices of location not good enough or do I simply need even bigger lures? I appreciate all information, Thanks!

Move locations... If you are only catching a few stripershybrids and mostly whites with that big of a bait, odds are they arent there.

Thanks for the tip. But the thing is I've been to dozens of spots with the same results. Perhaps Striper are in shallower water or even deeper water than the whites?

Assuming that striper and hybrids are in the same school that you are fishing, place your baits higher than the fish rather than right in front of their face.

Definitely go with bigger lures and baits. Minimum 5” swimbaits and big spoons. If you are fishing normal size rooster tails, you are fishing for white bass.

Huh, deadsticked all day at Buchanan yesterday with 4 inch flukes but still all magnum whites. Guess I just wasn't lucky enough grin

If I'm serious about targeting hybrids & stripers exclusively, I just go rustle up some live shad or live sunfish for bait. There's something to be said for "fool them, don't feed them", but I'm not too fussy about such things.

Head further up river
I would think the bulk of the stripers already staged mid-lake and further

Mid lake 20-30 ft . Look for humps that top out at those depths. Fish live bait.

Big live bait if your catching white bass move.

When you think you are far enough North. Go farther.

6" flukes minimum for dead sticking stripers. 4" is to small. If they are going to spend the little bit of energy they have in cold water to catch food, then they.want to catch large shad. When it's cold stripers would rather eat one big meal rather than 3 small meals.
