I've asked in the "bank fishing" section, but there are more people in this forum.

Regarding pond, stream, creek fishing and lake fishing from the bank, "in these colder months," what time of day would you cats say is the best for fishing?

I'm usually bass fishing, but for those who respond, perhaps list a time and what types of fish "you" are hitting.

Thanks...IN65

Addendum: I'm asking with regards in the DFW area. I'm in the Richardson/Plano/North Garland/North Dallas area, but I believe most of the DFW area is sort of the same.

Just about like any other time of the year, the first and last hour of sunlight seem to always be the best

This has always been how I approached fishing.

There are those days when straight up noon has them hungry.

Yep-

I have never caught a fish when I didn’t have a line in the water-
Some of my bigger fish have been caught in the middle of the day-

What has happed to you does not define who you are-

HOW you react to what happens to you DOES!

Until it starts to warm up and if it’s after a front noon till 5 is best right now.

This is what I was wondering.

In the Spring and Summer, mornings and late evening seems best.

However, when it's cold, the sun comes out and warms the water just a bit, so wouldn't the fish bite better midday?

I was wondering, and also, if time/water temp differs for different fish.

I'm fished a lot over the years, but most likely not as much as many of you more experienced fishermen, therefore, I ask.

This^^^^^

Bass and crappie usually feed in the warmer part of the day but only briefly. They aren't using any energy and don't need much to sustain them.

In March, they will begin migrating towards spawning areas and early and late will start to kick in.

Fish are cold blooded. They don't know what cold, or hot is.
We have been programmed by years of clueless outdoor writers that fish seek warmer/cooler water. Pfffft....
They eat fifty one weeks a year, make babies one. Where's the bait? There's your target.

Need to hang out in the Bluegill section. I fish 90 percent of the time from the bank. I prefer and love fishing from the bank. I also do my share of wading also. Winter time is the hardest for me but I do have spots that produce some very nice fish. I target the Sunfish (Bluegill, Redear, etc) but have caught my share of bass, catfish, gar, etc. I fish all over Texas and every time I go fishing is a "True Blessing" ! Right now I am fishing the Rainbow Trout Stocking Season which started in late November. The season runs through winter. Catching plenty of trout and having some great fish dinners. Here are a few pictures of last years and this years trips . thumb

Pat, I would agree with you up until the point that the water dips into the 50’s. When it does the water you find that’s closer to 60 will always hold more willing fish.
