Anyone here had this done? I hit 50 and it was like a switch was flipped and had to have readers. Been in contacts since I was 15 but I absolutely despise glasses. Got a consultation next week and this is not a cheap procedure. Just seeing if the results were worth the cost.

Are you referring to the procedure used for cataracts, i.e., replacing natural lens with artificial lens?

No its like cataract surgery but the lens will supposedly correct all vision except astigmatism. Also will not have to worry about cataracts at all.

I know little to nothing of it other than this.
My wife has just had cataracts removed from both her eyes. They did lasik at the same time. One eye at a time and two weeks in between.

She was given a price for three procedures.
Just cataract surgery.
Cataract surgery and lasik.
Lens replacement.

Those went from lowest to highest cost. Surgery, lasik added and lens replacement.
Lens replacement was the highest cost, about 2k an eye higher than cataract surgery with lasik. I don't know how much better it may or may not be.

done it, love it. spend the $ on the panoptix. no contacts, no glasses, no readers. 20/20 vision for life.

only drawback. driving at night sux... but, eventually you get used to it.

I've had it for a year now.

Had it done about the same age as you are now. It is money well spent. I had the lenses implanted, and set the prescription glasses down. Every now and then I will use cheaters, when the print is REALLY small on what I'm reading. But most of the time, no need for anything.
At the time I had lenses put in, they did not offer a multi distance lens, if you have an astigmatism. The offered only single vision lenses.
The biggest pain was putting the drops in, for weeks after the surgery. Don't freak out, if you can taste the drops after putting them into your eyes. I was told that was normal.
The procedure took about 8 minutes top ,for each eye, from start to finish. Some of that time was waiting for anesthesia to take effect. it

Yep, the drops are the worse part. I opted for distance vision on both eyes. Been wearing glasses since the 5th grade. Having to only wear them to read or tie fishing knots is ok with me.

I've had one eye done and need to get the other done soon. Piece of cake surgery with no pain and at most 2 days of downtime. Most people go back to work the day after. If you're FD, you might want to take a couple of days since you don't want to take any kind of hit to that eye for a few days.

Yes

I had the cataract surgery four years ago. 20/20 in both eyes now but not an easy path. About a year after the surgery I needed a quick YAG laser procedure in each eye to blast a hole in the film that often develops post-surgery; those were no big deal. The much bigger deal was the detached retina surgery and another procedure in the other eye to hopefully prevent a detached retina. If it was me, I would learn to tolerate the readers instead of doing an elective surgery. And if you get cataracts down the road, the surgery will be covered by medical insurance.

Wife had Kamra corneal implant in one eye and Lasik in the other about 8 years ago when the Kamra lens just came out. This was to correct both farsightedness and nearsightedness. She is back to using glasses again for reading.

They have improved the lens and surgery since but do your research on what eye center you choose.
