If that's what yall have for BBQ in East Texas, then you boys don't have good BBQ in East Texas.

The best part of my meal was the hot towel afterward.

I got a single meat plate with sliced brisket. Brisket was cold, dry, and no flavor.

Coworker had two meat plate. He's from up north where they lack taste buds.

And.......$53.00 for the above, a sweet tea and an ice water.

Terrible.

You go to CT for the ribs. Without a doubt the best ribs in the state.

There are a few decent restaurants in East Texas, but it's no place for a foodie. One of my favorite things about being on the road is going to good restaurants. I live out here for the lifestyle.

If you live in East Texas, you know the good places and you keep quite. CT has ribs and not much else. There is good barbecue in East Texas, but CT would be way down on my list.

In fact it's such a shameful review that you should retract it. It's like you went to a mexican restaurant and ordered chicken fingers

Y'all can laugh at me all you want, but I like the ribs at spring creek. Not the best ever, but plenty tasty.

The Original Bodacious in Longview is as good as anywhere I've ever been and I've hit the top 8 or 10 in the last 5 years

Check the receipt. It was probably $3.00 for all food/drink/towel you mentioned above and $50.00 dining penalty for not ordering ribs. jk

I have not been there in years , but I don't remember there being a menu. It was ribs , only choice was beer or tea. smile

I agree with above ,, you never order anything but ribs at Country Tavern. Like going to Drago's and ordering anything
besides Charbroiled Oysters.

I have been here in East Texas for the past five years and, for the most part, it is an eating wasteland. My go to BBQ place is Smoke Monkey on 155 in Flint. The original is in Rockwall. While BBQ is a personal thing, these guys are pitmasters and catered presidential dinners for both Bush's and for a few governors. They have great brisket, pulled pork and ribs as well as what are probably the best beans I have ever tasted.

For the most part, though, the majority of BBQ, burger and Mexican restaurants are mediocre. Each area may have one or two good places but they are few and far between.

If it's on the menu.... it better be good. If it says house specialty it better be excellent.

Stanley’s is not even close to what it use to be. I believe the pitmaster is now at the original Bodacious on Mobberly in Longview.

I just printed the list. Should I cross out Stanley’s with a pen? Does Bodacious Longview get bumped to #1 or is there a replacement #1? Just my opinion but lists should have more stability than the one WAWI posted.

You appear to have been to casual with your list. I wish you would have labeled it “tentative” or some such before posting.

CT is way over rated for anything. Ribs are ok.
It is also over priced. That being said, it is not worst.
But I am not a huge fan of Stanley’s either, in spite of all the awards they receive.

That would be Eddie Deans. If you ever doubt, just have 1 call with Mr Dean and he will tell you.

I agree with the guys. CT is all about ribs.

Great ETX BBQ joints are

Bodacious on Mobberly Ave - #4 in the Texas Monthly Best BBQ Joints
Stanleys think they are #8 in Mobberly Ave
Riverport in Jefferson Top 50 also
Bodacious in Hallsville is also a solid joint.

Now, hoping one day that we can get Forand Family Barbecue in Texarkana on the list also.

East Texas was bbq hell for years, but it is getting better. Of course, the original Bodacious in Longview is back to where it was in the 70’s. Darrell’s bbq in Center can be very good. Brendyn’s bbq here in Nacogdoches may be the best of all of them.

I was never impressed with CT's brisket. Stanley's is OK but it is definitely living off its past reputation. I occasionally go there for lunch with vendors and I get the mother clucker sandwich Cadillac style and that is very good.

The west side of tarrant county and parker county is bbq hell. Bbq on the Brazos in cresson is where I have to go. It's great

Is east Texas what hell is like? Y’all arguing on which mediocre s-hole is acceptable is mind boggling. It’s pretty difficult to chunk a dead cat around here without having it hit a pretty damn good bbq joint.

Went there Friday and had the ribs. They gave the wife and I more ribs than we ordered, who does that anymore?

They were as good as any I've eaten at a restaurant. The sauce they have was pretty good too. I like Sweet Baby Rays but usually just eat well seasoned ribs without.

Moto, you really need to give them a 2nd chance.

The food is better around Lake Fork when compared to the Lake Bob Sandlin area.

Country Tavern ribs and their jalapeño Mac and Cheese and awesome banana pudding is worth the drive, but I would skip the rest.I’ll have to agree, A bit over priced compared to other places.

I guess I happen to be in the right place. The Bodacious in Hallsville is just 3.5 miles, with the original only 8 miles, as for Jucy's it is just a short 6.5 mile run with Pizza King only 5.5 miles away. Fugler's Grocery and Market for a Bubba Burger is around 21 miles so it has to just be one of those because I was in the neighborhood. I will have to go and give Riverport a try.

Try Rickey’s BBQ in Atlanta. Ribs are excellent!! Their Turkey melt is also fantastic.

Ribs. Never had anything else. Advise those who come along to do the same. One guy ordered brisket. Said it wasn’t that great. I said “what did I tell you?.......ribs.”

Apparently. They should change their name. Their ribs might be good, but their BBQ sucks
