While out on a recent trip to a local lake, we saw two guys trying their luck at catching some bait with a cast net. I pulled up to their boat and told them we had been graphing and fishing off and on throughout the morning and I knew where a bunch of bait was. The younger of the two anglers started asking me about the Lowrance Active Target so I told him to jump in the boat and we would go check it out.

I have never gone out and thrown a cast net trying to catch bait but in the 20 minutes this guy was in the boat, I learned a lot from how I saw the bait and more importantly the net respond in the water! The only downside to these screen recordings straight from the unit is you can't see the HD detail that I experience on the water with the actual depthfinders.

Wow. The net collapses into a bell shape with a small opening almost immediately.
Explains why its hard to catch bait in water more than a couple feet deep.
Wonder what adjustments could be made to help keep the net more open.
Lighter or heavier weights?

Bigger nets, heavier round ball weights, and finer mesh. About all you can do. Saltwater guys been doing it for years.

A taped net is what you need in water over 10ft
