Biden is going to start releasing the second doses being held back for those that have already had the first shot....so more people can be vaccinated...BUT we've only used 5.9 million of the 29.4 million doses distributed so far. WHY would he put people at further risk? Clearly some people aren't getting the vaccine for whatever reason. This is nuts.
The current administration has done a great job of getting the vaccine available...but, yes, the rollout here in Texas has had several hiccups. IF Biden does what he says, it will really screw things up. Hopefully the pharmacists will do the right thing and hold back enough vaccine to get people in the highest risk categories the second dose on schedule. Not anything Biden can or will do until Jan.20. Biden is not doing this alone. He has knowledgeable people involved in the process advising him. I expect a much more coordinated process coming with vaccines being distributed faster. Increased production will serve to provide the second doses to those centers that have administered the first dose. I got my shot yesterday with a date for the second one, and Monday I will be notified of my exact appointment time for it. Hopefully more of this type of organization is on its way. I hope you're right, but Biden and his team have already said they will release the doses currently being held back for a second dose... https://www.usatoday.com/story/news...accines-not-hold-second-dose/6596334002/Forgive me in advance if my assumption is off base, but wouldn’t more doses being available also mean more second doses are available?
This thread needs more cowbell ...

No. It's the same amount of total doses that have been manufactured....just half the amount that has been manufactured and delivered to the government have been withheld for the second dose. Biden wants to release those to be given to first time people. If you release those and the manufacturing hasn't been ramped up in time, then those that are due their second dose may not get it within the 21 days or 28 days specified by the manufacturer. Now, the government doctors say they think we can go 15 weeks between doses, but the manufacturers say otherwise. I'll trust the people that developed it.
