Is it bad to leave an onboard charger in use for a long period of time (like say 1-2 weeks straight)? Is it bad for the batteries?

NOPE. A good charger will trickle and then shut down when batteries are completely charged.

NOPE. A good charger will trickle and then shut down when batteries are completely charged. This I would add...it's always a good piece of mind to check them so they don't boil over if the water isn't maintained correctly. If they are AGM batteries no worries at all.

Nope they're designed to stay plugged in... A better question is... Do you feel lucky enough to leave it plugged in that long???... It only takes once and poof... Dan

Dan Definitely pull the trolling motor plug and/or flip the circuit breaker. Doesn’t hurt to have a surge protector between the wall outlet and the onboard charger(s)

If you have AGM or lithiums and your battery is not being pulled down, its totally unnecessary to keep them on a charger. I religiously charge my trolling motor batteries every three weeks during the winter.
I just charged them last week. When I hooked the charger up it took 10 seconds for one battery to shut off and another minute for the other trolling motor battery.
Evidently my starting battery sees some drain. I charge it every week and it takes a couple minutes to shut off.
Mine are 7 year old Optimas and yes, I don't fish as often as I used to.

Mine stay plugged in 365 days a year when the boat is on the trailer.. If you have a trickle charger then no it's no issue

No its not bad they are designed for that they are programed with a charge cycle and then go to a sleep or trickle etc, look up the specs on your particular charger to be certain. I have a charger on my rv coach batteries, enclosed car trailer, rock crawler stored inside the car trailer, motorhome start batteries and my wifes Grand Wagoneer ALL winter. My boat has lithiums so I dont have to leave it plugged in anymore.

Heck I leave my onboard MK 460(4 banks x 15 amps per bank) plugged in so much sometimes I drive away with it still plugged in! 🤔😳🤫🤪
