If you follow the Whites-Hybrids-Striper forum you've probably seen lots of pics like these. I figure many of you don't visit that forum so I thought I'd post some here. These are screen shots of striper in Lake Texoma. I captured these screen shots during the months of October through December. I find these shots almost as fun to look at as regular fish pics (but I really like those too!) Anyway, I post them just as something pretty to look at. Hope you enjoy them!

Thanks everyone, I'm glad you enjoyed the screen shots. I included a lot of them because they look super cool but be advised, trying to catch the fish deeper than 20' or so on a fly rod is impractical. It can be done, but at some point its not really fly fishing anymore. If I'm over them, I'll certainly go for them but I'm really just biding my time until I find fish higher in the water. I catch 95% of my fish in 15 FOW or less or in the top 15' of the water column in deeper water. ftabangler13, yes, as you noticed, I'm using a full sink line and I'm looking for the fish that are chasing the shad up toward the surface. Osbornfishing, once we get past the Rabies outbreak, let's go. But its gonna have to be your boat because mine is barely big enough for me with a rod and a sandwich.

Locating these fish is a serious challenge. With A LOT of help from friends who know what they are doing, I'm getting better at finding them. But still, I get shut out quite often. Catching the fish isn't that difficult. Sure, sometimes they've got lock jaw and sometimes they are finicky, but when they are on a feed they aren't that tough to catch. Finding them is the key. That's where guides earn every penny they charge, finding the fish. My hat is off to those guys.

I’m interested in the technical aspects. What sink rate line do you use? Do you just count it down? How far are you casting when fishing these schools?

The line I am currently using is a Rio Lake Series Fathom Sinking Line with a sink rate of 6"/second. I recommend it, its a great line. And yes, I count down to the depth I want to fish. Best case, either the fish are busting the surface or shad are busting the surface and I can cast and retrieve without having to wait for the line to sink. Unfortunately, that's not most of the time. Waiting for the line to sink more than 15' is almost beyond my attention span. But having a pretty good success rate of catching fish at that depth keeps it fun. Waiting 40 seconds to get down to 20' is boring, but I'll do it if there's nothing better to do until higher probability fish show up. In terms of distance, I'm usually casting about 75'. That seems to be about as much line as I want to manage and requires about as much effort I want to put out. But you don't really have to cast far. If you are casting to fish you see on your 2D sonar that are 15' deep, I don't want to do the math but those fish are close to your boat, so casting distance isn't an issue. I enjoy casting the rod so I cast a bit more line. That's just part of the fun for me but not necessary to catch fish.
