no, opossum aren't nasty. they're the one critter you want around. yup, they eat 80-90% ticks, they eat snakes and are immune to all north american poisonous snakes, they're scavengers so they clean up dead carcasses. and they don't carry, spread and are immune to rabies. that coon on the otherhand, is a primary carrier of rabies Yep. I use to shoot opossums, now I let them go.

I used to trap raccoons in the 90's the hides were worth $20-$30 a piece. I caught a possum and skinned it out ($3.00) hide. It was full of white worms about 6"s long.
Never touched a possum after that.

Gusick did you know that the opossum body temperature is around 94 degrees. Due to their low body temp it puts them at a very low risk of developing and spreading rabies.

If I knew that, I had forgot. It makes sense to me because my body temperature is only 95-96, and I've never had rabies either.
