Question for the group... I have gear that I've invested a significant amount of money in for chasing big blues. I am looking for recommendations for spinning reels I can put on a cheep rod and give to my grandkids to catch channel cats. I have some young ones that need fast action. What do y'all think?

Buy that 30 dollar Shakespeare catfish combo from Academy. Comes with a bunch of stuff, as well as a rod and reel capable of landing 10-15 lb fish. Channel cats would be a breeze on one.

Not sure how old - how big the kids are... But the Academy combo that Z28 calls out looks good.
They also have the Ugly Stik catfish combo at $49 several places. Google it. Looks like just a touch better reel and rod. I like the Ugly Stik rods. Both are Shakespeare reels, so not a lot of difference I am sure.
These are 7' rods and 50 series reels, so a little heavy to hold very long for small kids. There are some smaller combo's out there, but if they hook a bigger fish, might be trashed.
Good luck, enjoy the time with grandkids!

Thanks guys. Those both look like good options. The kids range from 3 to 10 so I am a full time re-rigger/de-snagger when I have them on the boat...
