I used to fish the golf course ponds when I was a kid and my go to bait was a purple curly tailed worm. I got away from bass fishing over the last 30 years have been mostly fishing for Crappie in the springtime and some trips to the coast.

I live in Georgetown Tx and there are numerous small ponds that hold bass. What are some must have baits to catch pond bass? I went last night and threw a worm and nothing but also know these ponds are highly pressured these days. Thanks for any tips.

If there highly pressured it can be tough...May have to go super natural in color and go slow or you can try to fish for that instinctive reaction bite. Depends on what your pond looks like as far as weeds/rocks etc...Right now though my suggestion is trying to find the deepest part of your pond and try a ned rig or a drop shot. If your pond has a dam work that dam area too. My all time favorite pond bait was a floating white worm rigged texas style, no weight at all using a 3/0 hook so it sank super slow. I'd let it fall about a foot-2ft then I'd twitch the heck out of it for about 12 inches and just let it slowly slowly fall down. Just dead sticking it. That killed at my ponds.

A five spot for a shot and a beer? And you wonder how we wound up here.

Go to for my neighborhood pond is a black beetle spin on a medium spinning rod. I can’t get a hit on any other color.

Thanks for the good tips, tried with a white senko, some spinners last night and no luck. I will keep going, don't really have much else to do smile

^^^THIS^^^ My go-to is watermelon red, but it's probably just a confidence thing.

Noticed at Walmart this week the non-branded spinner was about $4 less than the name brand wonder if they fish differently?

Still have those purple curly tailed worms? They still catch fish. Especially if you happen to have any Mister twister with white tail!

Some are fine and some are very light low quality junk that won’t work well.

We've got a pond in my neighborhood that's got a good population of average fish (0-2lbs or so). My go-to is a frog. If they miss the frog I follow it up with a soft plastic jerk bait, worms work too. I prefer to fish with the larger baits but early in the year or when the bite is slower, I'll use a 1/4oz road runner.
