If you could only buy one would you go with power poles / talons or a trolling motor with spotlock

Spot lock/Anchor all day. Try your Talons/Power Poles in 15-20 feet of water with wind and waves.

I would go with spot lock but I fish offshore more often than not. If I mostly stayed in shallow backwaters I would rather have power poles.

Are you predominantly a shallow water or deep water fisherman? Deep water being over 8’. Both have their purpose. I don’t like my trolling motor running all the time when fishing shallow. I have both. With this being said l believe most people will us spot lock more.
FISHING NOW NOT WORKING ANYMORE

For the type of fishing I do it is Spot Lock 90+% of the time. The Poles would be good when beaching but most of the time they would be unused.

Spot lock works at all depths. You are limited in depth for power poles. I have watched in the spring time boats that have power poles and most of the time they aren't using them. Where I see them used the most is to secure the boat to the bank while parking the truck and when someone stops for lunch. The added weight of the power poles will also change your hole shot.

Spot lock. Without a doubt. Poles have a place, and look cool, and are a conversation starter with chicks at the gas station, but spot lock is the best thing in fishing in decades.

I have both. If I am fishing shallow, which I do most of the time I do not want the trolling motor running and blowing out the area. If the poles won't touch, then spot lock. They both have their place, all depends on how you fish.

This is an easy thing to figure out for yourself. Go fishing - count how many times a day that you would actually use one or the other. Do this on a couple of trips and you'll have your answer. For me, it was poles - hands down. I won't ever own another boat without them. I rarely fish off-shore though and I'm still dubious about the Ultrex. Seems like every week there is a post saying or asking how to fix "this" or "why isn't my spot lock working".
