I have the opportunity to go fishing with my daughter tomorrow morning and am torn between going LMB fishing at Lake Bastrop or trying for Smallmouth on Lake Belton.

Is anyone able to attest to how the bite has been recently at either of these lakes? I would really love to catch some smallmouth but concerned I may have missed the window with water temps getting cooler. Lake Bastrop is 10 mins from my house so it’s much more convenient, but wouldn’t mind driving to Belton if productive,

And help/feedback is appreciated!

If I lived in the town of Bastrop, I’d go to Fayette no question, even if I lived 10 min from lake Bastrop.

Thanks for the advise Minner. We caught 9 LMB and lost 4 in standing timber on wacky worms and c-rig baby brush hogs. Only fished for 2.5 hours or so.

Will definitely be back again.

I have heard that the smallmouth on Belton are few and far between. Who knows?
