Hi Y'all, I hit Buchanan this week and marked fish in around 60 foot of water. Drop my slabs and started thumping. I caught probably around 6 white bass while my fishfinger was similar to the first picture I've attached. Then the bite died down and my graph became very similar to my second picture: just a big block of something on the bottom, and not very defined. My main questions is whether there are still fish on the second picture or is that a stagnant baitball? Thanks!
I had the same screen at the same depth happen to me on Belton. I switched to a 1/4 oz. jig with a 4 inch gulp alive and caught catfish for half an hour. I assumed they were attracted by the thumper and were not interested in the slab. Try your go to catfish bait and let us know how it worked.
I vote with Bill. This happens routinely, especially in the winter. My money is on very small blue catfish. I'd suggest using a #8 or #6 treble with a sliver of shad placed on each of the 3 tines of the hook, weighted with a ~3/4 oz sinker, then send it down to the very top of that "horizontal band" you are seeing, and just hold your rod still and watch your tip for a subtle bite. When you get a nibble, set hard, and let us know what happens.
