What would be the better option for fishing / hunting / trapping in the the trees at Caddo Lake ?

Fishing, Caddo has some of the best panfish in TX.

Surface drive.

A longtail can get awkward in all of those trees

My bad. Now I get the OP. I figure surface drive as well. Maneuvering around Caddo with that long tail would be asking for trouble, IMO.

Thanks guys, I have been searching several sites, forums and videos and am still confused.
I have experience with longtails in the Basin and Pierre Part long ago before surface drives were available.
I have also watched many videos that show surface drives winch out of log areas while longtails seem to crawl over them.
Or suface drives stuck in mud while longtails just bury the prop and move on
Seems they both have pros and cons

Just remember reverse is almost non existent in many of the surface or long tail setups . That may not matter to most people .

Built a custom duck boat for a client outfitted with pro drive shallow water outboard. It had full power reverse. Pretty slick set up.....

It's only a good cast if you catch a fish...

I have seen many long tails used on Caddo but they seem to really suffer in the handling/performance area. https://www.mudbuddy.com/category/long-tails
