If I'm driving 1200 miles to come fish texas in the winter I'd be heading straight down to Falcon. Great choice for this time of the year but the 1200 miles becomes 2000 miles round trip. But the fishing is pretty solid compared to most texas lakes in winter. Adami has like 3-4 over 10 last 2 trips I saw on Facebook. Name another lake putting out that kind of fish right now. Completely agree, just recognizing the extra time on the road.. might be cheaper to fly down and hire a guide.

I prefer falcon, you can be fishing in shorts in Jan... the tough part is if you only have a week you could get hit with a cold front and only catch a few fish all week. And windy days will be no go for fishing.
That said I caught a lot more fish in East Tx this feb mar april, vs what I caught on Falcon the same time frame last year, but I had more over 7 at Falcon.

I would suggest Welsh, Martin Creek and Brandy Branch fo numbers, all power plant lakes. Stay away on the weekends😬 Have they started Martin Creek back up? It had been shut down the last time I checked and went by there.

If I'm driving 1200 miles to come fish texas in the winter I'd be heading straight down to Falcon. I would agree with that....but realistiacally you are nearly doubling your trip. Just drove through KC the other day. KC to Dallas 525 miles. Dallas to Zapata: 485 miles. As said go to Welsh. Heck I don’t believe you need one but hide a guide for Welsh if you are inclined. Again probably not necessary but consider a guide for Athens too.

That's a long drive for mediocre fishing. Choose wisely...

Have you fished the Wolf Creek nuclear plant lake outside Kansas City? Or the one close by on Dardanelle in Arkansas? LaCygne power plant lake is just south of Kansas City. Wolf Creek power plant is about an hour and a half south west of KC not far off I-35. Both can be great this time of the year. Retired grass grower

Agree, that’s where I’d go; or to both. Much better chance of catching numbers and having fun.
Might catch a bigger one down here, but unless your timing is perfect (getting down here on the third or fourth day of a warming trend) it might be a struggle.
