Due to the only way I currently have to transport my kayak, I cannot leave the fish finder unit and transducer mounted on there permanently or they will become damaged.

I am looking for a way to mount them that will allow me to install/remove them easily for transport. I have seen some people make PVC mounts for the transducer to hang off of the side. That would work for me but I have no idea how exactly would be the best way of going about doing that.

Also I have seen people use magnets to affix the transducer to the hull of the kayak through the access port, but my kayak does not have access to the inside of the hull, so that is not an option for me.

I have an idea I can make a holder for the unit and battery, so that is not a huge concern to me. Figuring out a way to mount the transducer in which it can easily be taken off as needed is my biggest issue.

Anybody have any pictures of their fish finder setups that they can take off and install without much hassle?

1/2 inch pvc, different configurations of arm lengths and use of Ts, elbows, and spacers depending on which kayak it’s going on.
If you carry a crate you might consider installing arm on it. Mine kicks up if I hit anything.

If this is your only kayak and/or boat... You might consider using Marine Goop to "glue" the transducer inside the hull of the kayak (this assumes there is at least a small access point to the hull). This is a semi-permanent application.

If you need to transport the depth finder between kayaks/boats or if there is absolutely no hull access, Iconns solution will be very hard to beat.

These are pretty cool units. Kinda bulky but you mount your FF on top the box, battery goes inside and it's all portable. https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/lowrance-portable-kayak-kit?hvarAID=shopping_googleproductextensions&ds_e=GOOGLE&ds_c=Shop%7CGeneric%7CAllProducts%7CHigh%7CSSCCatchAll&gclid=Cj0KCQiAlZH_BRCgARIsAAZHSBmFchHLWRhUStfua61Nz0M-0Ud2BcXBUUWpdUTCdCUqj9B0uooVpbIaAgcEEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

You can DIY that pretty cheap.

Honestly; I’d just do through the hull with GOOP, unless you are using SI
Might lose 5-10% of sensitivity, but the simplicity of not having to worry about deployment and snagging transducer arms on vegetation/line/etc is worth it.

Icon - I like the PVC arm you have there. So you are suggesting mounting the Base of the arm onto the crate and mounting in such a way that will allow it to swivel up and down?

Mike and CCTX - I do not have any access to the inside of my hull. It’s my first kayak and kind of a lower end one. I can add some access ports to it if needed with some kits I found on Amazon.

The fish finder will need to swap from the kayak onto a jon boat so they need to be easily removed and installed. Also as I said If I leave them on during transport they will get damaged so I need to be Able to take them off when I load them into my truck and install them when I get to the lake.

Jerry - I looked at the product you linked. I really like the idea, I was actually thinking about building something like that, basically a battery box that I can mount the fish finder to the top of.

Side note - I’ve always run my fish finder of the 12v boat battery, but obviously I’m gonna want something smaller for the kayak. I hear some guys use r/c car batteries but they are small and offer limited capacity. I was thinking about using a small lawn and garden battery. I assume this will work fine with just a fish finder only being run off of it?

I have used my scotty mount a few different ways. Used to have the PVC through the side that would swing up if I hit something and it was ok. But was harder to attach and detach. Went with the scotty transducer arm later on and like it a little better. I’ll share pics of both.

I think a lawn and garden battery would work. For how long would depend on your FF. Lithium batteries last longer and are a lot lighter. Here's a stout little lithium battery that would work. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Q7FY8CC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_oCu5FbGRX4EHB?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

If you carry a crate that's what I would do if you wanted to keep it simple without drilling into kayak. You take crate off and your graph, battery, and transducer are already stored when you get ready to load or unload. I prefer not having anything stick up on my gunnels but the two kayaks in picture already had Scotty 241 mounting brackets installed when I got them. I usually only carry one kayak and load it on my car hull up. Lots of ways to do what you want, just make sure arm is close enough that you can manually lower or raise while seated.

If all else fails you can always use duct tape. I don't glue any of the connections sp I can twist them around to be used on either side of different kayaks.
