 Trout Fishing the White River in Arkansas

Has anyone gone trout fishing on the White River below Bull Shoals Dam in Arkansas? I think I committed myself to take my father (80+) and son (14) on a guided trout fishing trip from a boat in the White River (not wade fly fishing) in June. I am thinking about staying at Gastons Resort, using a guide for the first day and then renting a river boat and doing it ourselves for the next 2 days. I am looking forward to it.

I went with my dad once when I was about 15. Didn’t catch a thing but to be fair we had no clue how to catch trout.

post this in the Fly fishing section,I believe a few in there have been. Although I own a fly rod and waders, we don’t plan on fly fishing. This will be a spinning rod boat trip using bait, Rapalas or marabou jigs based on one evening of internet research.

We have fished the White a number of times out of Gaston’s. The White is good for rainbows in quantity. We started fishing the North Fork a couple of years ago because of the chance of catching large brown trout. Gene’s on the North Fork is a great place to stay. http://www.norfork.com/genes/cam.htm

Lizard, I have been. It’s easy fishing with a guide. I don’t remember who I used. Pretty place.

It is unspoiled country. White and Little Red are world class trout fishing waters. I fished them both during my 20 years of living in AR. You'll catch fish, and you'll be glad you went. I didn't like to eat them, so never got into that type of fishing as much as some.
The surroundings and lifestyle are fantastic. I miss that very much since moving to Texas.

I have, had a blast. Caught so many fish everyday it got stupid, many are small but occasionally you would hook a good one.

It can get pretty cold over there in the winter. If you want to retire in AR, check out Greers Ferry. My favorite place in AR.
