You’re handicapped by at least six figures of debt when you graduate college.
Not if your smart. Agree.

I went to a community College and then UT Arlington for an engineering degree. Worked while in school and ended up with 15k in loans that I had paid off months after graduating.

Not if your smart. Perhaps this kid is making a wise decision, then.

No reason to go to a division I college all four years if you have to take loans out the whole time. Can get just as good an education splitting credits up with a junior college and its a fraction of the cost.

I'm in a similar situation as him.. 20 years old, a year out of high school. Only difference is, instead of going after fishing, I'm after the music life. I could sit here and type out my whole story but the point of my comment is that at our age, this is the best time to "go for it" and just send it all the way. We're young enough that if what we had planned doesn't work out, I already have multiple backups lined up. My plan is to go until the age of 25 or 26. If it goes absolutely nowhere by that time, I'll be attending Texas A&M Maritime Academy to pursue my 2nd choice of career as a maritime captain. Only a year into this, and I've already gotten further than most do in a year and can't be thankful enough for it. But, anything can happen! It can just fall off at any moment and I'll be forced to hit my other path. Only way to know is to find out! I'm about to get foot in the door of college basics next year just to get them out of the way. We aren't just going into this blind without a backup! Not all of us had to hit the pipeline or the plant as soon as we graduated! Can't make yourself anything if you don't try

Its his choice to try. He is young enough that if it does not work out he has plenty of time to live a "normal" life and get a "normal" job. I hope he succeeds. No wife and kids at home, not a ton of bills at home etc. Great time to get out there, travel around and see if you have what it takes to stay on tour. Really pulling for him to succeed. Couldn't agree more

What do you guys think about this? There are exceptions assuming your a once in a generation talent but to me just not a smart life decision, didn't work out for that Hibdon boy and isn't working out for that Collings kid, why not go through college fishing first??? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=obp7bKn-Spc Which Hibdon boy would that be?
