3rd Generation of a Bass Angler, his Grand pa competed in BASS, Dad and Uncles as well. He will do good. Kid was throwing a bait caster at the age of 3.

This poor old (recently retired) firefighter put 3 boys through college so obviously I believe that an extended education is a good “tool” for giving you more opportunities but there are many paths to many careers. Why would I sit around and armchair quarterback someone’s choice? Just wish him well! Like Mark said above^^^^: no family to feed, no mortgage.....what better time to “go for it”?

My oldest talks about doing this... I tell him to get back to his homework.

He’s a pretty good fisherman, though - especially for his age. I’m still trying to figure out how I became his boat bitch.

Wish him well, He comes from a fishing family. Hard to say it doesn't work when your family does it.

LOL, he's kidding himsielf if he don't think your handicapped by going into 90+% of job interviews today without at least a 4 year degree. The kid may very well do great, just don't like the odds, the fishing in college route and a marketing or biologist degree to boot seems sensible.

With his family connections and name recognition should get him started. Now he has to show he can compete and win some moola to keep the sponsors interested.
Like someone else said if he doesn't do well he can go to college later and get a regular job.

Didn't even think of that, places like Bethel are giving scholarships to be on the team now. I would say most of the new talent comes up through the college ranks now, Patrick Walters, Lee brothers are a few off the top right away and I think it really helped them.

If he wants to fish for a living why in hell would he need college to do that? Too many people push college when it just doesn't fit some people. Some people are more geared to a trade school than a 4 year degree not to mention many people have succeeded in life without a college degree. He can always go back to school at any time in his life that he chooses.

you have to admit, this kid is in a totally different position with Chris Lane as his dad. TOTALLY different.

Just hope he doesn't burn out, as with any high level sport if your not competing for wins at the every level as you go up, you don't need to be jumping rungs of the ladder. College fishing is massive now, and with his pedigree he could probably choose his school.

They are supposed to invite top five from each Toyota division, he finished sixth so maybe they work down the list if anyone declines https://www.flwfishing.com/anglers/cal-lane-533688
