I had a little Hyundai that would throw an O2 sensor code with low octane summer blend, but it wouldn't with higher octane so I ran the higher during the summer and lower in the winter.

I did a test on my 2012 f150 several years ago comparing cost per mile of the mid grade in comparison to regular unleaded with the 3 oz bottle of Lucas fuel treatment added to the tank. I had squirreled away a bunch of those little bottles and refilled those to carry in the pickup. Using the gallon price of the Lucas, it was within a penny of the midgrade when figuring cost per mile.

Back in the late '70s and early '80s I knew a guy that had a '69 Eldorado with a 501. He had a connection at Addison airport and could get AVGas and he would mix it with regular unleaded.

Wouldn’t admit that on a public forum. I know chances are low someone on here would report it but ya never know.

Ecoboost F150 owner here...Owner's Manual states 87 for daily driving, 91+ when towing. I tow just about weekly, so I've been using 91+ since I bought it.

I made the mistake one time of using 87, not by my choice, as the gas station I stopped at had only 87 available. I should have pulled away and went elsewhere. That being said, my truck ran like a turd and you could feel it hesitate and sometimes shake while idle. I will never do that again.

You can't go wrong by going by the manufacturer's recommendation unless you have changed something to affect octane requirements.

My fuel mileage significantly increases when I run premium in my truck, added 100 miles while towing.

Drip gas is slang for cheapest gas in town

I thought it's what came off pump jacks. One of my buddies used to run some wells for a guy when we were in college, he told us we could run it in whatever we wanted if we could filter all the junk out of it.

Ran a lot of it in the 70's and 80's Operated a gasoline plant in New Mexico. Propane too.

It is, an old timer when I was a kid ran it in an old ford
he drove around picking up beer cans and getting drip gas off the wells

I would use the fuel the manufacturer suggests. They might know more about this than others. Just a hunch.
Yep . And as we drive so many miles every day about every 4th or 5th fill up we add a bottle of good fuel additive .

I used to blend gasoline (millions of gallons, maybe billions) for a large company, and prior to that worked in a refinery (Chemical Engr) making the blend components. There’s a lot of bad info in this discussion. I won’t go into all of it, since it would take more time than I’m willing to spend.

Just use the octane recommended by the auto maker. You don’t need more than is recommended, but you should not use less.

Premium gasoline is generally a better grade due to the better additive package in it. The gasoline I used to blend up, and it is a blend of components, had no additive package. If it wound up (sold) with Exxon or Shell or whoever, they’d use their own additive package. Back then, Chevron’s was considered the best by our own in-house technical guys. We sold an additive package, but the big dogs like Chevron and Exxon used someone else’s.

So, once upon a time, Chevron Premium was the best gasoline available. Places like Bubba’s quick stop might be buying from a low end maker with just a very basic additive package, so their gasoline might be a bit lower quality. That said, all gasoline blended had to meet minimum specifications from the government, and they would check your product. You had better not be in violation.

My brother drove a gas truck for a company that sold gas in 3 or 4 different brand names.

Conoco, Texaco, Diamond Shamrock, Exxon are the ones I remember.

All of the gas came out of the same tanks but he would insert a card to tell the machine which additives to add for each brand according to which stations he was delivering to that night. cheers
