When the Bluegill/Sunfish bite slows down what do you do? You get on the road at 4am and travel to a Rainbow Trout Stocking. Myself and Rick (aka Catyakker) headed to the hill country and fished a trout stocking. We met some regulars on the stocking trail who have become good friends over the years. After eating breakfast tacos, drinking hot coffee, and exchanging fish stories the stocking truck had arrived. The bite picked up about an hour later after the truck departed. Me and Rick managed to get our limit of five fish each. We both had several that had gotten off while reeling them in. Gold Super Duper Lures, and Berkley Trout Bait-Cheese colored were the baits used. A very slow retrieve was used on the Super Duper's. We had a great day meeting up with some good friends and catching a bunch of Rainbow Trout. Hitting the Rainbow Trout Stocking Trail. It just don't get any better! fish

Nice job! I've gone out the last 3 years for them- never caught a single one!, Dang turkey' birds (double crested comorant) always seem to get them first at the body of water near me....maybe time to try a new hole....

Thanks FishinDonkey for the reply. cheers The place I was fishing did not have any "Turkey Birds" aka Cormorants. clap They do get their share of fish. taz

Side Note: Research some other stocking locations. I make several out of area road trips each year and have enjoyed them very much. It's worth it! thumb

Hitting the trout trail sure is fun with Chuck. He knows about everyone there. One thing about it, you don't lack for anyone to talk to. And I was so surprised to find how helpful and friendly they all were. wink

Great job and beautiful fish. We have 4 stocking events in our area in the next 10 days and we are trying to plan out hitting all 4. With record number of fishing licenses being sold this year I'll be interested to see if the turn out picks up from last year.

Apparently less folks down there, you were able to take pics without anyone else in them. North Texas every shoreline would have folks in the photo. bang

Managed a few of these at Miller Park Pond in Temple today. The pond is down about 3 feet from last March. The water was very stained with quite a bit of floating moss and grass. Not too many folks fishing today. Did not see many fish being caught. Looks like the pond was fished heavily the last few days. I did spool my reel with 2 pound test. I could throw the gold SDL 15-20 feet farther over the 4 lb test I usually use. Overall, a good day to open my season. Next will be Bullfrog Pond in Austin.
