Rocked on down for another mid week day trip and rolled onto the sand at 8:30. I was hoping to get an earlier start than that but sleeping in sounded even better. The surf conditions were rough, solid fours with probably even some fives in there as well breaking on the 3rd bar. Driving conditions were much better than they have been lately and it was smooth sailing for most of the beach. I had brought zero bait with me at all which is something I hardly ever do. I will always bring at least a bag of frozen whiting which has saved my butt more than once if fresh bait is scarce and hard to come by.

Bounced around spots on the north end until I got into the bait. Whiting, sand trout and croaker were thick on orange and pink flesh colored fishbites in the first gut. Lots of little undersized rat reds mixed in with the bait fish. Doubles and triples on the bait rod were the norm and made quick work of loading up on them. Launched baits out into the first and second guts looking for some big bull reds but none were to be had. The slot reds remained super thick using small whiting chunks. Many of the fish were upper slot sized 27โ€ and 28โ€ specimens, good filets on those. I stayed on the redfish for most of the morning and early afternoon. Nailed one little juvenile bull shark a bit later in the afternoon before packing up and heading back to the house. No bigger sharks or monster reds but the slot action made for a really fun day and brought home plenty of fresh food for my neighbors.

See yโ€™all out there!
