I've never owned a business, but I have heard the phrase "make hay while the sun is shining". But, for the life of me, I do not understand why Ammo mfgrs. are not hiring and cranking 24/7 to take advantage of the sales of ammo. Same with Lysol spray mfgrs. Guns and Butter, Supply and Demand. Geesh. Have we become that lazy that we turn Customers away? I would imagine that Gun Range owners are hurting right now. Who wants to rip through two boxes of 9mm ammo at a paper target to the tune of $70 alone for the cost of ammo.
Manufacturers are struggling to get the raw materials needed. Business was sloooowwww before all of this started, but they still planned for a moderate spike in sales since it is an election year. When all of the other stuff hit and the panicking started, manufacturers blew through their stock of materials and cleaned out their suppliers in no time. Now, they are scraping the bottom of the barrels to make the stuff, while we scrape the bottom of our barrels to have something to sell. Then, when a manufacturer does happen to get a huge lot of ammo out to dealers, a large portion of those dealers will mark it up INSANE amounts and sit on it. Just talked to a customer in Florida who said a gun store local to him was selling 50rd boxes of JHP 9mm for $200 each...

I went into a major sporting goods chain when I was checking out I ask the kid at the register what his biggest transaction was he said 6k all for ammo. We received an online order for two barrels of Hornady Frontier .223 ammo. Almost 28,000 rounds for $8500.

Don't forget that the manufacturers took a big hit with covid and people not being able to work. Then you have all the political bovine scat, riots, looting, etc. adding to it all.
All that being said, the only time you can have too much ammo or fuel is if you are on fire.

I ask only because I don't know, and don't feel like researching right now. I've got other chores to do.
Is making ammo legal if you are using it yourself or giving it to buddies. In other words, not selling it...
Is making ammo hard???

...------ You can make it and sell it to whoever you want. It's not hard, but I won't buy someone's reloads because I don't know if they have a clue about what they are doing. The problem is, ammo manufacturers can't even get the stuff they need to make ammo so the chances of guys like you or me getting it are pretty slim.

Who pays that for just the off chance of needing to kill someone?

All that being said, the only time you can have too much ammo or fuel is if you are on fire. To top it off, the ammo manufacturer's first customers are the US government and various law enforcement agencies. Excess capacity after that can go to Academy etc

I'll tell ya what's stupid - every morning our Academy has the same line of people lined up waiting to get in to buy up whatever daily allotment of ammo they can. I think most are in the resale business.... i saw them on Cherry Lane idiotic

Talked to a guy the other day who was desperately looking for 9mm. He then mentioned he had a stash of about 60,000 rounds of 9mm already....... Are you serious dude? Calm down. I don’t expect to ever shoot 60,000 rounds combined of all calibers/gauges in my lifetime. That’s absurd. I know I've probably gone through close to that in just .22. I can see that for .22 over a lifetime for some people. But 9mm? And you “desperately” need more when you have 60,000 rounds? I just don’t shoot that much. If I had land to do so, I’d shoot a lot more, but going to a gun range is annoying to me. 60,000 rounds is a lot to me, though.

Yeah, I could realistically go through 2K-3K rounds per year if I were shooting hogs up at the Sanger land. But going to the range once every couple of months is perhaps 1,200-1,500 rounds per year. Now if I went once a week and shot 100 rounds on each visit, that would be about 5K. Still a 12 year supply with what this guy has stockpiled.
