The last week in May I was at Iowana Beach Resort on Portage Lake located in the Chippewa National Forest in Bena, Minnesota and had a fantastic time. The resort owners were great and bend over backwards to make your stay a good one, if your looking for a Minnesota Resort this is a good one. This is a great place to go to catch a variety of fish. On Portage Lake we caught Crappies, Bluegills, Rock Bass, Perch, Walleyes, Northerns and Largemouth Bass. The resort is also close to Leech Lake and Lake Winnibigoshish so you can fish those lakes as well. On May 30th I caught my biggest Bass yet, picture is below, I was using a six inch watermelon Yum Dinger, my digital scales batteries were dead but my Uncle guessed it to be around 6 lbs, I of course think it was bigger.

Trust me Texas fish are like Texas deer...SMALL! I miss living/fishing/hunting up in that area. And then there are the big Muskies. They will eat a bass that size for breakfast!

I grew up in that area for 22 years and lived off of walleye and northerns. After moving down here...I miss catching those fish. My gave me the go-ahead to go back home for a few days and do some serious fishing. Watching a northern come up and slam a spinnerbait just as you are lifting it out of the water is AWESOME!!!! Also caught nice walleye on an X-rap.

If you ever get the chance to fish up north...take it! You won't forget it!

Just got back from Lake Winnie. Wasn't all that impressed with how Walleye fight or taste for that matter. It WAS cool hammering the pike on top, they take it like a 10lber.

Pretty scenery, though.
