Want to get folks opinion on bank fishing etiquette. Went to local pond today I’ve been to hundreds of times. I get there and a guy has 6-8 poles spread about 10 ft apart taking up almost the entire half of the pond. I guess he’s fishing for catfish.

I setup a ways down the bank from him and start fishing for bass with a drop shot. He sees me make half a dozen casts. He comes to reset his rod closest to me and proceeds to cast in the exact spot I’d been throwing for 20 mins.
To me that’s just not right. What’s the etiquette in this situation? I told him he was being a di$$ for casting right where I was fishing.

So you roll up on a guy who’s already fishing and start casting right near his setup. Then get upset when he comes to readjust his setup that you’ve been casting near? Without having seen the whole thing go down, it sounds to me like you could have been more courteous and moved further away from where this guy was already staked out. Sorry, but that’s how it sounds based on your description.

So it’s cool to setup 8 rods on a pond and box anyone else out from fishing it? It’s not like a huge lake with miles of bank access.

Was the local pond a Community Fishing Lake?

How big is the pond? You didn’t say.
Are there regulations? You didn’t say.
I’m going on what you said.
And yeah. It’s cool if he wants to fish as many rods as legal in a spread.
Your description sounds like you showed up and started crowding him. If not, give more details or a map. You asked for feedback. If you don’t like it, don’t ask.

Thanks for the info on rod restrictions for community ponds, didn't know that existed. This is on twin lakes in Richardson so I think that definitely falls in that camp.
Here's a screen shot, he was taking up the red circle side of the bank and I was fishing at the x, thought I gave him plenty of room considering how much of the pond he was already taking. [Linked Image]

Looking at Google maps the pond in question is less than 600 feet by 200 feet. Based on OP map the catfisher was using 1/2 of the entire pond but decided to also fish the area where the 2nd angler decided to fish. IMO that could be considered harassment in addition to fishing too many rods.

Even if he had too many lines in the water, you saw them and decided to still fish there.

He was there first. D!©k or not, you should have moved on.

There are other ponds.

I’m with the OP. It’s not too much to ask to have at least a small bit of bank to fish from.
