What size weight for TX rigs should be used when? IE: shallow/spring using lizards, summer/deep using 10" worms and everything in between...

Deep fishing I prefer 3/8oz tungsten. Shallow I will use all the way to 1/32oz and all in between to 3/16oz. Flipping bushes I use 3/8oz. Don't forget about weightless.

Good here. I use 1/4 oz more than any.

Sometimes let the fish tell you, back in the early 90’s We were tx rigging slugo’s and my buddy was wearing me out couldn’t get a bite, I was fishing a different size weight than him, switched and immediately starting catching them. Sometimes they like the rate of the fall! Just experiment with different sizes when the bite is tough!

Agreed unless I am pitching into thick brush or grass then you want more weight so the bait can penetrate the cover. Done very well with a 1/2 oz weight pitching a T-rig around scattered grass and flooded brush.

I know I agreed with the little as possible theory but have to say, this is the exception. Out by my we have tons of submerged salt cedar and mesquite with all the water we got 2 years ago and if you want to get to them in the brush this is the only way when their holding tight inside of it and a good time to peg your weight as well.

I would say it depends on the wind if no wind then 1/8oz or 3/16 but if the wind is blowing like 10mph a 1/4oz will be a good weight and if it really blowing I use like 3/8 depends on rod and depth you are fishing also, I know alot of people that throw 10in worms on 1/2oz fishing deep even on a calm day lol

Over the years, I've graduated to heavier weights. Used to use 1/8 and 3/16 almost exclusively. These days I seldom use anything less than 5/16. If pitching into huisiache or retama bushes in less than 6 ft, I'll go 3/8, any deeper it's 1/2 oz.

All tungsten:

1/4 - speed worms in grass very shallow

5/8 - all around shallow to deeper drops

3/4 - deep 15+ offshore

I rarely ever peg

Wind is my indicator on size...

Little to no wind = 1/16 or 1/8

Slight wind = 1/8

Wind = 1/4 or 3/16

Blowing = 5/16 or 1/2

Punchin' = 1/2+ pending thickness of cover
