There a lot worse places to go I can promise you that. In Texas? Name one. Fritch Thatโs why they all move to Amarillo. Fritch ain't that bad, next to Lake Meredith National Recreation area. If you're a small town person you'll love it if your a city boy, not so much. If you don't like it here we are just as happy as you are when you leave.

Flew to Amarillo 3-4x for a job, felt like the settlers must have. It looked like the end of the earth with 15-25mph wind that NEVER STOPPED FREAKING BLOWING... I drank heavily on all return flights.

I need to qualify my "Yes" answer above because there's a caveat.
There was an ad in the back of a dental journal offering $300K base salary plus a bonus based on production. That's a lot for a young butcher straight out of school and a buddy of mine was really happy to accept. It was a bit of a disappointment to find out the position was in Amarillo but his other option was something like $60K at a Dallas Monarch. Sooooooo.... We could say he was REALLY excited to go to Amarillo.
That's the only person I've ever heard of though.

i graduated from WTSU in 1972...ended up with a job in Wichita Falls...moved back to Amarillo in 1974...nothing wrong with the Panhandle...i cut wheat / maize in Spearman / Perryton for years

Amarillo is what you make out of it. The area has a distinct beauty all it's own. If you like big city life, it will disappoint you. If you don't mind a hike, there are some truly gorgeous places. I have lived here most of my life, except a few years in the DFW area. I think the people up here are much friendlier, and we darn sure know how to golf in the wind. I would surmise it like a blackhole, once it sucks you in it is hard to get out.
