Amarillo has a baseball, hockey and Arena football team, a very nice dirt track and events going on downtown every other weekend. I live half way between Abilene and San Angelo and don't have any of that. Yeah, miss it.

Nice people, but Jeez I've never seen a town with so many roads to NOWHERE! It's like they would start an F.M. road build it till the money was gone, then when they got some more funding instead of completing one road they would start another. Potter Co. is littered with those roads. hmmm

If heading NW, try hopping off at 40 at FM 2381 at Bushland to cut thru to Dalhart. Nice drive. Passes a place called Boys Ranch that has an interesting and oft-ignoble history.

I was engaged for 6 months to a woman that lived in Canyon (next to Amarillo), and I often wondered the same thing. I like the cold and seeing snow in Texas is awesome, but that place sucks. We do stay there on our way to Red River, as it's about halfway....still not a fan.

No joke! Been driving through there for over 50 years and have NEVER seen it when it wasn't torn up!

Amarillo.....its the place I usually stop driving to and from Albuquerque. Great place to grab a bite to eat and gas for the truck. Sometimes I swing by the Academy there just to stretch my legs and walk a bit.

The Indians lived there 400 years ago, but they were nomadic.

The only reason for Amarillo to exist is because they needed a place between Oklahoma City and Albuquerque.
